Hello and welcome to my blog Nettie's Quilts.  I've been quilting most weekends for the past 4 years.  In that time, I've learnt from a lot of mistakes, unpicked seams and accumulated a few quilts.  In this blog, I hope to showcase and share my quilts.  My sewing room is the dining room in a 2 bedroom apartment.  I don't have a design wall or inside space for photo opportunities or storage space for fabric but I'm used to apartment living so I live by the rule that "Less is more".  I'm obsessed with patchwork quilting, both modern and antique eg. American Civil War and Dear Jane quilts.   Have a look around and feel free to leave a comment. 

 

Pinwheel

Pinwheel was one of the first quilts I made for my mother.  It was at the time I'd discovered quilting blogs and everyone was making this block.  It was also my first attempt at half square triangles which took forever to piece and finish.  Pinwheel was professionally long-arm quilted by Susan Trendall



Shirts

Shirts was made from old business shirts.  I cheated here by adding the striped fabric because it needed contrast.





Purple Medallion

Purple Medallion was inspired by the first quilting book I bought called Patchwork by Diana Lodge.



Blue Spool

I copied Blue Spool from a quilt in the book Country Quilts, American Country.



Snowball

Snowball is the first quilt I ever made.   I loved the circle effect without having to sew any curves.  However I regret making the block so small because it required 176 blocks.  Snowball was long-arm quilted by Susan Trendall.

 



Plus

Plus was made for my sister who loves the colour blue.



Egg Timer

 Egg Timer was a quilt made for a baby boy.



Courthouse Step

Courthouse Step was inspired by a quilt I saw on the blog Blue is Bleu.  Courthouse Step was long-arm quilted by Susan Trendall.




Pyramid

Pyramid was dreamed up after trying to replicate a diamond quilt I saw on Pinterest.  I had cut hundreds of triangles for the diamond block that didn't work.  Not wanting to waste the triangles, I pieced them into rows and added borders.  Pyramid was long-arm quilted by Susan Trendall.



Hopscotch

Hopscotch is a pattern designed by Amy Smart.  I made this quilt crib size because I need to practise it before I attempt bigger quilt.
